I first heard of my artist, Edgar Degas, in the book Mira's Diary: Lost in Paris, (Click here to learn more about the book). I immediately wanted to know more! His work intrigued me, that and the fact that he lived in Paris. :)
I collected so much knowledge from this project. I learned that Edgar painted even when he was blind. If that's not commitment then I don't know what is! At that time his brush strokes were much heavier and colors more vivid. He went to law school for his father, but later dropped out to pursue his passion for art. I not only learned about art but also about that time period.
Some of his most famous pieces of work were:
-The Little Dancer of Fourteen Years: This was made in 1881, Degas's most famous sculpture.
-Jockeys Before the Race: Was painted in 1879. It is one of my favorites.
-Rehearsal on the Stage: It was made in 1874.
These are just a few of his many pieces. If you would like to learn more about Edgar Degas go to this website.
For our project, my friend, Abby, and I created an iMovie. Using a different app then we normally do helped me get better at iMovie. You can watch it here.
My reflection on this project is that it was very beneficial for us to do this. We not only learned about artists but also about that time in history. I absolutely love when two things connect like that!
So, next time you have a project to do, promise me you'll do this one thing. Just try. I mean it. You may be laughing at me right now, but if you never try something how do you know you won't just be amazing at it? What if Derek Jeter never picked up a baseball bat? What if he would have quit the first time he struck out? Where would the baseball world be now? What about Martin Luther King Jr? What if he dismissed his thought and never told the world the "I Have a Dream" speech? What would our world look like right now? This may seem a little much for this art project, but everything you and I do means something. Whether it be big or small.
